Good Ole Y-Pipe Beating The Floorboard Issue
I ordered this special hanger from Mufflex that is supposed to keep your Ypipe pressed down so when the motor torques it doesnt slap the bottom of the car. Well my Ypipe (and alot of them premade) are flattened out a good bit to try and ease the problem so the hanger wouldnt work. Is there another easy fix to keep that from hitting, i rarely get on it hard just because hearing that is so unnerving. I will probably end up having to have another Y made eventually because of it but is there any good short-term or even long term fixes?? Thanks!

I used to have that problem until I got a polyurethane motor mount for the drivers side. The engine wouldn't torque over as much and the y-pipe stopped banging on the floorboard.

How bout u keep whatever y-pipe u have and put something between the floorboard and the pipe....when i put on my FLP headers i was expecting to have that problem cuz that was what i heard about the FLP's...but i never had a problem. Not sure what u could use....a piece of wood in between and wrap the pipe in somethin?

I thought about polys but then you just get more vibration elsewhere on a street car and they cost $ lol. I was trying to think how i could jam something in between that wouldnt get hurt by the heat and not look like ghetto as hell lol. Bigmike, i think the mufflex will work for you if its not flattened, true music and exhaust can drown it out but i still notice it and im sure you can hear it outside the car. I just dont like janky **** lol.

I used the Mufflex hanger and it stopped all my banging.
I used a prybar to gain about 1" of clearance from the floorboards at the closest point to the pipe and put a exhaust hanger rubber in between the pipe and the floorboard. My y-pipe also hit on my Spohn adjustable TA.
Then I installed the Mufflex hanger and adjusted it to hold the y-pipe. Then I removed the exhaust rubber and the problem was gone for good.

poly motor mounts didn't add a bit of vibration or any of that to my car, I had them added in when the new motor went in... and I don't regret it one bit. The poly tranny mount my th400 sits on doesn't make a sound either....
I'd start with the motor mounts and tranny mount, see what that gets you and go from there. A 2x4 and a 3 lb hammer to the one spot on the floor where it hits might also be a good fix as well.. if it's under the seat it's not somethign anyone will ever see, so I wouldn't be too concerned about doing it.

I also installed Poly motor mounts and it totally eliminated my y-pipe banging. I haven't noticed any extra vibrations while going down the road with the new mounts. It was a bit of work to change them, but was definately worth it. It was amazing to see the difference in how much the motor moved with stock mounts compared to the poly mounts.

Heater hose huh? Hmm... it would prob handle that heat and wouldnt be noticeable. Not a bad idea. Thanks! Also the poly mounts are good too if they really dont cause unnatural vibe in the car, maybe next project ill slap some in too. Thanks everyone you rule!
