Why are only the tops welded.

Default Why are only the tops welded.

I was recently looking at some headers and noticed that only the top of the headers are welded together. Why are the headers welded like that? Here is a pic I got from cobrakillerta's thread. There are American Racing headers.

they may be welded and ground on the other side of the flange and that bead is just for more support.

I think they weld em there just to hold the flange to the tubes then weld em on the inside.

That is correct. You can see that in the pics posted in the other thread about these American Racing headers. They look really nice.
