Default 160 degree t-stat doesn't fit???

Hey guys,
the other day I was attempting to swap in a Hypertech 160* t-stat (part # 1014) , and the it (portion that goes into the water pump) would not fit? Has anyone ever had this issue? This is my 3rd LS1, and on both of my '00's I had no problem. now I have a '02 B4C and I would've had to grind down atleast 1-2mm off each end to get it to work. No grinder, so I just ended up returning it. What gives?

Someone has probably replaced the waterpump with the 04+ style. It is the only one available from GM now. You just need the new style t-stat. Check out Tbyrne (sponsor) for the best price on the new style one.

We ran across this on my sons 2002 camaro,it had a newer water pump on it also(WE DID NOT KNOW AT FIRST) t-stat would not fit.Finaly found out the newer water pumps were a little different and took a larger t-stat,i think it was a lot cheaper too, like 20$

Yep, the water pump was replaced with the new PN. Think they came with a 185.

Just double checking but you are putting it in right? not backwards?

Please do no take offense to this, just want to make sure...

It should go in like this:

That is the new style t-stat for the 04+ WP. The older style t-stat is the housing and stat all one piece.

Yes, I was putting it in the right way, but the one I had also included the housing. i feel better now. Does anyone know where I can get the newer style t-stat? Someone mentioned a $20 one?
