Default Can exhaust systems be pressure tested?

If I cap or plug the throttle body, can I then pressurize the exhaust system from the tail pipe to, say, 5 psi? Will my intake manifold burst? Is this a stupid idea?

WHY? to see if you can blow a whole bunch of carbon into the intake? of course the intake would take 5psi theres s/c and turbo cars that run up to 24lbs of boost or 24psi in the intake.

No, my hope is to find leaks or verify that there are none. Good point about boosted cars - Thanks.

We have a smoke machine that puts smoke in the exhaust system and comes out of all the little exhaust leaks if there are any. Its heated mineral oil so it is very very white and you can see it very good

All you have to do to find any leaks is have a buddy w/ welding gloves put his hand over the tail pipes and you walk around under the car listening for hissing. (while car is running)... Take your hand off the pipes every couple seconds.

You don't have to press ULTRA tight to make a complete seal, just enough to create SOME pressure. You'll hear it from underneath if there is a leak.

^^ Thats not what he was talking about but yours is the correct way to do it. He wanted to seal the exhaust system with pressure.
