Default Difference in Valve Covers???

I've got a new (to me) motor going in my TA and I am using a lot of accessories of the old one to get the new running (i.e.-a.c., alternator, etc.). Well another thing from the old one going on the new one was going to be valve covers and fuel rails. The mechanic that is doing the work for me says that the valve covers on my old motor has 9 bolt holes while the heads on the new motor only has 4. Does this seem right? Is there really a difference between the years? The old motor is the stock motor-98 TA. The new motor is out of a 2000 vette.

98 valve covers were perimeter bolt, 99+ have center bolt valve covers

Well ****. That would have been the last thing to cross my mind. I hope they aren't expensive. Anybody know what they cost?
