Default K & N filter....who wants it?

What a joke. I've come to the conclusion the basic paper filters catch MUCH more dirt. The only reason the K & N may flow better is because too much crap gets through them.

If someone wants the piece of crap I'll send it to you free. Its going in the garbage in a couple days.

K&N filters suck *****. They yield no HP gains over a stock paper filter, you have to oil the damn thing which sucks, and the damn oil can coat your MAF wires which will screw up your fueling.

Its better to just stick with the paper filters.

Funny this thread popped up.

I just picked up a paper filter less than a month ago because I wasn't happy with my K&N.
... It would not seat correctly with the lid at all.

Got a PM, its gone already.

Its funny, there was this machine K & N built that a Pep Boys had up on there front counter. It had about a 4 x 4 inch section of a K&N that you would put over this square and than you turn the fan on, It would blow the little ***** up this cylinder. Than it had a paper filter, same size that you would also put in the square, when the fan went on the ***** couldn't get blown up to the top of the cylinder.

One thing K&N doesn't tell you about their filters is that they, WITHOUT QUESTION, let more dirt through into your engine. I'd love to see a class action law suit against them. Its no better than the Torndado for the intake.

Your not going to "blow" your motor using a K&N filter over a paper filter. That's ****** stupid. I want to see a blown motor from using a K&N flter

Noone said BLOW UP. But there's a very good write up somewhere in this forum about a road race car: They took a brand new engine and ran a race, than did compression checks on all cylinders. It was pretty bad. They than installed another brand new engine and ran a race but put a dab a grease inside the lid after the air filter. They checked the compression again and it was again, BAD, and the dab of grease was covered with debris. They installed another brand new engine but took the filter they were using out (I'm pretty sure it was a K&N) and used a regular paper filter. The compression showed "better" than when it was just built because the rings got to seat perfectly.

Thats 100% proof that a K&N filter is crap and accelerates wear-and-tear, AS FAR AS PROTECTION GOES. WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT THE LESS THAN 1 rwhp it might give you. OVER TIME YOUR ENGINE GETS FUCKED.

And someone posted a 5 RWHP gain, NO WAY. It was just the small variation you get from doing multiple pulls the same day. When my engine was tuned years ago the pulls were 10 RWHP apart.

I have a K&N but I only use it at the track or for short periods until I get a paper filter back in there. There is a small HP gain tobe had from one but I daily drive my car 250 miles a week. The Paper filter leaves the inside of the lid on my car clean as can be when I change it about every 3000 miles but with the K&N there is light layer of black dust on the inside of the lid if I leave it in there for a couple hundred miles. Plus the K&N doesn't seal for **** against the lid.

It was some kind of a blue one. Oh well. I know the intake sound got louder w/ paper.

I've never looked before, but does anyone make paper cone filters? I'm getting tired of cleaning mine.
