Question modifications....

Ok I've read the So You Wanna Be Fast.. Thread and want to start modifying my car but I don't have the 3k for a supercharger and I won't have that until I finnally get out of school with my BA and get into my career.

So I was wondering if anyone had any advise for some modifications for my 2001 Formula with like a $500 budget... I was thinking the K&N CAI but reading about it in a different thread i've kinda reconsidered.

How about a Volant system?

or something that would produce more HP?

Any Ideas ?

If you have an automatic save a few more bucks and buy a torque converter. It won't give you more power, but it will definitely make you faster.

^^^what he said, but besides that for $500 i would get a cutout, a lid , and either a sifter for a 6 speed or a tranny cooler for a auto..then save the rest towards your next mod

lid, ssra, cutout, shifter (if its a stick), and a shiftlight. if its an auto skip the last 2 and save for a stall and a tranny cooler.

I say buy a catback, lid and if you have enough..Either save it for the next mod or buy one'a those slp short shifters. Only $99.

The cool part about where you're at is that the cheaper mods(lid, catback, cutout) show the most significant gains. Although I still shouldn't call them cheap, eh?

Again, are you A4 or M6?

k&n CAI is expensive and won't see any better HP than a lid with a OEM paper filter.

Simple mods:
-lid (stock new filter)
-catback (any)
-Stall (if auto)

If you just want fast from a roll, buy a cut out and nitrous kit and spray a 100-150 shot. This is generally not considered the best long term approach but it will make the car fast.

If you can get away with no emssions testing then this is an alternative:
-port you TB (free if you do it yourself), see sig for a link
-Pacesetter LT's and TSP ORY - $500 (either attach to stock exhaust, or dump from the Y pipe, or get a cheap catback. TSP Rumbler is like $200 or 2nd hand.)
-lid (TSP, SLP, MTI) $95

And install your self. A little over budget (probably nearer $700 if you include caskets and such). But good gains with good parts for sensible money.

well if you have a true dual skip the cut outs and cat back get a lid and go look at the free mods on the insthaleuniversity (i know i spelled that wrong) i picked up alot with my long tubes also a manual fan controler and a 160 stat helped alot for little money also from what i can gather the ls6 intake lookes to be my next mod and you can find them from $300 to $400 shipped to your door just make sure to check the part numbers

No, your exhaust system merges into one pipe after the cats/headers and is one pipe until the muffler. Get a single cutout on this single pipe, probably under the passenger side rear seat.

You can get a cutout for less than $100 installed. Get a lid, $100 new or maybe $50 used. From there I'd either say drag radials or start with the bolt ons.
