Default Going Pacesetter - to cat or not to cat

I've decided to self install Pacesetters. Probably with the TSP cat pipe. I want the most power gain but not with the expense of rasp or obnoxious noise. I plan on replacing my pre-cat o2 sensors so should I get the vette sensors so I don't need the extensions. Also do I need to do something with the driveshaft to fit the cat pipe. If it's easier and won't be raspy I'd just go with the o/r pipe. How does the TSP pipe connect to the header. I know the MAC's have "tru-fit" connections but I've heard the cats are restrictive. I don't plan on any more mods for awhile so I plan to take it to Speed Inc. in Illinois for a dynotune in spring to maximize my results.

If youre car is a DD, the gas/smog smell might annoy you.
Something like this is cheap, wont cost you hardly ANY Hp, and is legal.
Plus it looks badass

Its up to you, I would of kept them but couldnt afford to buy them and it woulda took alot more effort to fab it up, I know TSP sells a catted Y but I hear it hangs really low, and im already lowered so I just went with the ORY

I think the obvious question is do you have to pass a sniffer in your state? If not then I would say go with the ORY. More power and the rasp depends on your catback. I have Magnaflow and there's no rasp. If I want obnoxious then I just open my cutout.

WI plugs in for emmisions and doesn't do visual. How bad is the smell w/o cats. Anyone have o/r with LT's on a stock car with Hooker cat-back. ls it very loud or raspy.

I don't think my LT/ORY/Magnaflow was that much louder than the stock manifolds and catted ypipe w/ the magnaflow. When I added my cam though it got a bit louder. You'll be fine with the emissions as long as you're not throwing a code for no AIR/EGR (if you're getting rid of those) or rear O2 sensors.

I def say "Not to cat". They really kill your true sound! If you state or county doesnt require they, then say "No To CATS" !!!!

Get the cats! I am contemplating replacing my TSP off road Y pipe with a catted one. Here are some of the reasons why.
The car is raspy in a small RPM window with LT, ORY, and Hooker cat back. If you let the car run for 30 seconds in a closed garage you will gasp from the gas smelling air its that bad, so I can hardly work on the car inside during the winter. I had to install sound deadening insulation under the carpet from the front seats on back because the drone would give me a head ache after driving the car for over an hour. I know part of that is because the cat back I would like cats to help the sound of my car. I need to replace my bosch 13111 O2 sensors for the second time because they start throwing codes because of slow switching. The coated LT with the ORY can not keep them hot enough. And I have seen people's Dyno runs with my same cam and mods (228R) with just as much RWHP and TQ.

I have had cats and I havent had cats. I don't know if it is worth replacing the stockers with aftermarket cats, so I vote no cats as well. Your Y will be much cheaper.

IMO:

for true duals: no cats
for y-pipe setups: cats

y-pipe setups are raspy on our cars. all of them, with the exception of the dual/dual. running cats with a y-pipe setup will help the sound and increase the tone.

for true duals, they sound better without cats. they're not raspy like the y-pipe setups and duals are very tone-rich, making cats unnecessary.

i say get stainless spun metal brick cats. you won't lose any power worth mentioning and it'll really clean up the sound.

i used to have a ford contour with a swap in swap out cat. It was sweet. Of course there were no O2"s after the cat. but man that was so easy and nice. I think i am going to go with cats just becasue idk i worry i guess lol.

Ceramic Magnaflow cats will only cost you less than 10 rwhp, for a more refined calmer sound no drone, and no annoying gas smell it's a no-brainer, go cats. Unless you are a dyno queen.
