Default kooks header with A.I.R. connection wrong

This is on a 1999 TA. The driver side A.I.R. fitting is not linged up with the A.I.R. hose. Is this header not for a 1999 TA, or is the header built wrong?

That aint right. I'd call George at Kooks. Since you already have the header on the car, maybe it would be easier to modify the AIR pipe.

You might have received a 2000 header. 2000's are a bit different from 98-99 if I remember right. I think people have to heat/bent the pipe 90 degrees or something like that when using 2000 parts or vice versa. Check the archives.

if the header is built wrong, I'm just going to use block-off plates. I ordered these from WS6store.com, and Josh over there is talking with Kooks about this. It's not as simple as them sending me a new header because a-it's already on the car and b-I had the headers coated.

My AIR didn't line up on mine very but we just did a little bending and undid the hose clamp and twisted it around and got it on there.

I went to Arizona Power and Sound today, and they had a bunch of A.I.R. hoses laying around. I found one that matches up perfectly. It seems like GM changed the design mid year in 99.

Why can't you just delete the AIR system all together?

He could, but he won't listen to me when I tell him about the weight savings he can get by deleting AIR and EGR. He is stuck on saving weight being the easy way out .

yeah yeah. I should have. I found out that all of that **** is California emissions. They don't look for it in Arizona. Oh well. I guess I can deal with the extra 5lbs.

The point of using stainless is it wont rust or corrode over time not because its pretty. The coating acts as an insulator to keep the heat inside instead of the engine compartment. Stainless has a poor thermal transfer so the coating isnt needed on it as much as steel but I guess it couldnt hurt.

exactly. And after about 6 months, the stainless turns bluish from the heat. The coating will keep them from changing colors. Plus it's makes them shiney. lol

yeah, if you polish them up before installation, once you get the heat discoloration in them.... looks awsome

Perhaps you coat them because of the thermodynamic aspect of the coating. It does a better job of keeping the heat within the tube.

you totaly missed it

still, nobody has said why someone would buy stainless headers and have them coated. coated steel and coated stainless steel would have the same results. except steel would cost a bunch less.

perhaps it was done for corrision resistance reasons. I'm going to think overtime the mild steel coated header could have the greater possibility of showing corrosion than the coated stainless. Possibly even starting to corrode from the inside. If it were possible I could conduct a salt spray corrosion test on both a mild steel coated and a stainless steel coated header and we could see how both stand up.
