You need the coolant crossover pipes and plugs or you can just grind down the ridges on the bottom of the intake in order to make room for the existing coolant lines that are under the intake. You might as well also pick up a set of new intake port gaskets.

I did the grinding to the intake, its really simple and only takes a few minutes.

be sure to be super carefull with the oil sending unit. Most first timers snap it off. The brake booster hose snakes around to the back of the intake manifold and WILL catch the sending unit if you're not carefull. Its got a green plastic clip ontop of it. Its about the size of a roll of quarters.

Its on the back right side of the engine, and is stands about as tall as a roll of quarters. Theres a little plug in the center back there and then right to the right of it is the oil pressure sending unit. If nothing is standing up back there then just fish around behind the motor until you find that dude. It will still be connected to the plug. Its got a green plug.

AFAIK when you reinstall everything, if your oil pressure gauge is MAXED, then it's busted. Of course if it aint standing up, there's a tell also...

My new sending unit sucks. It reads like 15 more pounds than the stock one. And i know its bad because there aint a stock 98 with 91k miles that reads 55psi on the interstate.

brad, how well does grinding the ribs down work? does it still squash the coolant lines at all under the after installed ls6 intake? also, do you think i will definatly need the gaskets? thanks

Hi, I will be doing an LS6 intake swap on my '98 bird soon and was wondering, do you have a pic of exactly what I would need to grind down if I were to use my existing coolant line? Thanks in advance

if you grind down the fins flat, it will make a dead on perfect fit. Of course you have to make sure to remove the plastic clips on the knock sensor wires. With the plastic clips removed, the wires are more or less loose. I just put electrical tape over it where it goes over the coolant lines and grinded down a bit extra over that area where the knock sensor wire goes over the coolant line.

Thats what i'm gonna do also. Save 50.00. My ls6 intake thats gonna be here mon. is brand new from gm and it has a egr hookup. I'm gonna just hook that right back up if I can. Do you know if I have to change anything or can I use everything on the ls6 that I used on the stock ls1?
