This is one of those questions that gets answered with 100 more questions.

The only thing I can say is from my experience I didn't think that Y pipes were better performers so I went with the X. You can usually tell the sound difference from and X and Y too. But it depends ....cutout, no cutout, cats, no cats. Try to be a little more descriptive with exactly what you need to know and what you might be doing. I think X pipes are a bitch to install the first time...but all exhaust is a PITA!!!

Keep in mind a Y-pipe is for a single exhaust and an X-pipe is for running true dual exhaust. Two entirely different exhaust setups and price ranges (you may know this, I'm just saying it because there was recently confusion on this it seemed in another thread)

I have a question. You say "Y" pipe or "X" pipe. Are you talking about true duals? The only way a "X" pipe can be used is with duals.

I honestly just prefer Y-pipes overall ... if they're done properly that is.
the majority aren't, and they're very difficult to do when it comes down to it because of routing, angles and how people do them over all (most look like T's or have a pipe welded to another pipe with a hole cut into it)

I've had both and I liked both. The X-pipe was dumped under the car !cats !mufflers. Sounded meaner than the Y-pipe same setup. I took the X off because of ground clearance ( the roads in louisiana suck *** ) but as far as performance I really can't tell the difference.

Xpipe will always outperform a similar ypipe. That's because of the scavenging effect of xpipe, and the fact that 2.5" piping has greater capacity than a single 3" pipe.

As far as sound a True Dual system will sound deeper and cleaner. Xpipe will be slightly more exotic sounding than an hpipe, which would be deeper. Both would sound better than a comparable ypipe, which by nature has rasp and tinny sound built into it.
