i was told by the old timer that machined my race block that if you wrap headers up, they are great for drag cars only and not good for daily use b/c it can cause the headers the crack.
BUT.....
I have a lot of biker freinds and some of them that have worked engines use header wrap and their pipes never crack. then again, those are already coated...

If I was you... i send them to get those headers coated. i have 40k miles on my headers and they haven't lost their shine too bad, but rough compared to new.

The coating is supposed to keep underhood temperatures down. Ive had my macs on that arent coated for 75k miles. The only bad thing about them is that they start looking bad, but functionally they are fine.

So your car doesnt run a lot hotter cause of them not being coated?

The under hood temperature will be hotter, but how much Im not sure. I dont think this would cause the motor to run hotter, and if it did it wouldnt be much. Here is the place where I would go to get them coated.

uncoated... yes hotter than coated... but from my sisters ws6 that still has stock headers and to mine... i think they stay at the same temperature, but the coated headers cool off quick. my coating is starting to get rough looking, but after i first installed them i could touch my primaries after 15 minutes from shut down after driving around for an hour. the cool of QUICK!!!

Wrapping the headers isnt a good idea becuase it holds moisture next to pipes eventually causing premature rust.
