Default Ignition question

From time to time my car resets its computer, resets trip and learning curve. Could this be caused by a bad ignition switch? The switch hangs from time to time and the vats have been disabled due to not wanting to read the key. Also can I replace the switch with an older GM not vats ignition switch?

Thanks.

Andy

no, not unless you want to modify your column. its probally more of a hassle to change it then it is to fix it the right way.

The computer will not reset unless it loses power from the "battery feed"
pin which should always be "hot". Loose wire?

Does the battery feed go through the ignition switch? This is an intermittent problem. Only happens about once a month. It is beginning to be a pita.
