I shift at about 6k with my cam, but would never take it passed 6200. I used to shift at about 5800 with the stock cam and bolt-ons. Remember you cant take it to high because of the weak rod-bolts in the 98-00.

depends on where the car stops making power, I know a guy that made power with stock cam up to 6500 so he shifted there but that is a little much for stock ls1 springs. I'd say between 5800-6300, but stock rev limit is 6000 so you would have to up that if you would want to shift higher.

I dont think that he is crazy. I changed out my rod bolts for when i get a cam that way I can shift at 6800. on stock rodbolts id feel comfortabe going to 6400, 6500 at the max. right now i shift at about 6100, all i know if im damn close to the limiter. must be making power because i pulled a 13.07 with just a lid and catback.

yeah, i know, thats why i switched mine out for the Katechs. Did it while the pan was off looking for my rocker arm bearings thats why i 64-65 on stock, and 68 on the on the new bolts. Although, some people around me have been spinning thier motors quite high. many around 6800-7k on stock bolts. And these are 98 cars. sorry to get off topic. id say put it on a dyno and see where it stops making power, then shift.

With boltons, you're not going to make any more power by spinning it much higher than stock, and you're risking the pushrods.
BTW - I spin my '98 to 6800 (cam'd car with good springs) with stock rod bolts, and have been doing it for about 19k miles, no problem......... yet....

And im not saying its a gurantee that anyone is going to throw a rod bolt, but i just wanted to point out that its a proven fact that the stock rod bolts are weak, and many people have figured that out the hard way. When all is said and done, get it on a dyno and see where you stop making power. If theres no need to take it up that high, then way gamble? and with a stock cam, theres no need to go above 6200.

How many miles are on your car? That makes me feel good about putting a cam in my car down the road!
