Default Currently Have Borla, want a new sound.

I want to change the sound of my exhaust. To me, the borla is a little too raspy. I want something with a deeper rumble to it. I was wondering if its possible to just swap out the borla muffler with one from another brand (GMMG or Corsa) and so on. Two questions. Is it possible? and Which brand would give a nice low rumble to it?

With borla it would be a little harder to swap the muffler (unlike loudmouth). If your car is raspy just put cats on it shouldnt be raspy with just borla. I would recommend corsa if you got the money

I used to have a borla on my GTP, and I thought it was super raspy, especially after I went catless/headers. I would never really suggest a borla to anyone unless they have a totally stock exhaust system and want to wake it up a little, with no plans of ever modifying any other part. I think Ill probably kill myself with the GMMG once I run it with the LTs and ORY. Not sure what a S/C'd ls1 sounds like with lt's and stuff, but I would probabl suggest you look into a td/overthe zxle setup.

EDIT, reread your last post-

You cannot simply switch the borla muffler with a GMMG, the inlet/outlets are different. You MAYYYY be able to just switch the rear section, just before the GMMG splits into two pipes.

I have a MagnaFlow Cat-Back and it sounds great. Not raspy at all, and the whole setup I got for $370 shipped and its stainless.

do you know of any direct links to a sound clip of this set-up, its one of the most common ones i know but on ls1sounds all i can find of them are ones with cams. what does a stock valvetrain with this set-up sound like? PS Headers, cat/or catless X, and 1 chambered flows.

The SLP Loudmouth I is one of, if not the best cat-back system I have heard for 4th gens. It's outrageously loud, but that's my opinion. I'm sure there are some sound clips somewhere of just the SLP cat-back you could sample.

do a search in the external section. and multimedia section. i've heard a lot of td setups on here, not sure if there's any on a stock valvetrain car though.

yea the borla came on the car. I dont really feel like getting a td setup made right now, nor do I feel the need to buy an entire new catback kit. for now, the borla will do, if the mufflers were interchangeable I would do the switch, just not worth the cash to swap everything out

I'm kind of in the same boat you are.....did you ever find a definate answer about changing out just the muffler? I dont understand why it would be so difficult. thanks

why not swap the I-pipe for a Borla XR-1(i think thats the name),or a loudmouth resonator, so u would have two mufflers, but still have the option of leaving the baffle open for a louder sound, or closed for a nice mellow tone. just a thought, thats what i would do.

I have a borla and took the muffler off after it splits, and that makes a big sound difference so i dont see why changing the muffler wouldint make it sount different. And it wouldnt be hard to change it because the j-bend is welded to the borla muffler so all you would need is a little J-bend bent, and it will work perfictly!
