How in the hell do I remove a crank bolt from a longblock that's pulled??????? ARGHHH
Got my LS6 longblock Friday night. All fine and dandy but I can't get the freaking crank bolt off.
No flywheel on motor so I can't wedge/lock it.
Motor just turns and hisses at me when I apply breaker bar to the crank bolt.
tried a $200 625ft/lb 1/2" impact wrench and it just laughed at me. Barely moved pulled and didn't budge bolt.
Tried to head up bolt for about 1min or so, but didn't want to fubar something really bad
any tips or help would be welcomed. I searched but didn't come up with anything
thx
John

if the pulley is on then grab a band wrench or chain wrench to hold the pulley where it is. if no pulley is off then i use a thin rag and a big adjustable plier to hold the crank snout from moving.

If the accessories are on, you could just route the belt in a way that will keep the pulley from spinning and allow you to break the bolt loose. Done this many times on A4 cars/trucks.

I'll try this, if not the gentleman who stated the summit pulley holder I'll get one of those
thanks alot guys.
I must have spent 1/2 of an afternoon jacking with different impact wrenches, messing with breaker bars etc... .
should have just posted here. Gave neighbor and I an excuse to network his house and drink beer though . Get frustrated with car, go to his house, pop a beer. Finish at bit at his house, go back to car, drink beer. Get frustrated again, well you get the point

tried that
$200 625ft/lb impact wrench just sits there and farts
Don't really want to keep hammering on it with the impact as the bolt head is taking abuse and I really don't want to round it off

I tried for about 3mins and nothing, just slightly budged the pulley and then the aircompressor(borrowed from neighbor) kept blowing my garage fuse. Doesn't like to restart at 100psi :O.
Brad, about how long did it take you?
I'm using a 24mm socket but it's a 12pt is that ok?

It took me about a minute of nonstop impacting for the impact to break it free.
