Default After installing headers, do I now need a tune?

Ive been told that the MAS should do any adjusting that may be needed. But Iv also heard that Id need a tune. My understanding is that a tune is not needed unless im doing something internal like a cam.

Thoughts?

a tune will take uot any codes, and get you more power and adjust everything right off the bat. I recommend it, I did my tune when I got my headers and I know for a fact it helped me out.

I've spent the weekend tuning my car after headers. different things changed everything from the seat of the pants acceleration to the sound of the exhaust. So I'd say yes also.

you don't need a full tune- If you have a local shop that works on ls1's they most likely keept a tune for headers that they can work off of for your car. Most shops charge about 150-200 for a basic tune and up to 400-500 for a full tune.

I would reccomend a tune a tune either way- it will only help you.

To get the most out of the headers, a tune is a good idea!

With a headers install couldn't you just tune with a handheld instead of going to a shop to get that extra ten hp?

Get a full dyno tune. It will clean up your air/fuel ratio and improve high end hp and also throttle response. Recommended any time you drastically change airflow, like with headers, to get what your potential is.

Remember future re-tunes are usually much less, so when you get a cam you can get a retune for less than the full price.

so what exactly do you tune on a basic tune after headers? besides air fuel ratio and deleting any codes..is that it or can ther be more to mess with to get a better outcome..

For a full tune a few different things are done, depending on the tuner. Air/fuel ratio, timing, VE tables, fan settings, MAF adjustments for big cams, A4 tuning if A4....

if you plan on adding heads and cam, wait til tune the car then!!!

if your just staying bolt on, then tune it now!

you car run without a tune on headers! You will just have an SES code and run alittle rich in gas!!

dan, as slow as you are with mods i would say get a full dyno tune

atleast get a street tune though. whatever you do, don't waste your money on a handheld tuner.....

My car is running like absolute hell right now. It kinda sputters a bit while in gear. Is this due to the lack of a tune? or something else? PS, i havent checked the plug wires, but it only happens on occasion, not all of the time
