What sized cut out do I need on stock catback I pipe?

I just had mine done today, 2 1/2 inch diameter cut-out, but the stock I pipe is measured 2 and 3/4'', they sell the 2 1/2 because when they weld it, it'll butt together.
The 3 inch is usually used for aftermarket ORY's.
