K&N FIPK pics installed with FRA
I received my K&N FIPK today, and it's just in time since I'm heading to the track tomorrow for some bracket action. I was hoping that the big filter that comes with the kit would sit low enough to allow me to use the stock radiator support with my free ram air mod. The radiator support that comes with the K&N FIPK is metal, so it would not only absorb heat but it would also be hard to modify for the FRA. Well, it worked perfectly! It's awesome that K&N incorporates SMOOTH replacement "hose" to replace the stock piece. Here's a pic of the new hose installed. Check out how smooth the inside is!

The best part is that it's sized perfectly, so there isn't any fighting with it to go on the TB or MAF. I slid the MAF on, along w/ a hose clamp, and then installed the hose that connects the MAF to the filter. Here's a pic of the hose hanging over the stock radiator support. Notice the FRA.

Everyone kept telling me how the filter would sit too far forward for the FRA to be of any benefit. All I can say is that you will only know by actually doing it. The FRA will bring cold air to the back of the air filter, and the back of the filter sits directly OVER the FRA, not in front of it. Here's a pic of the entire unit installed.

Like I said, I'm planning to run brackets tomorrow, and I'm going to take my stock MAF-to-TB connection, MTI lid, and K&N panel filter to see how the two setups compare. I should have results posted up tomorrow night. That will be the true test of this unit, not a bunch of dyno #'s.

Guys,
I don't know what happened to the pics. If they're still not coming up for ya, just click on the link below them. It'll take ya to the pic. As for the filter looking crooked, I just need to turn the assembly slightly at the MAF. It's straight now. No, this is NOT the prettiest setup. I will put money down that it works better w/ the FRA than without. If you're going to enter the car in a car show, then you can just throw the K&N support on. Then you'll be nice and neat. I couldn't give a crap what it looks like if it works the best.

Here is a pic of mine using the metal peice he mentioned with the CARB number on it.

The area around the filter is carbon fiber. Very nice. Comes with a recharge kit too!
Then add a SS hood and you have some great air flow.

Very good idea.
Pretty thick steel though. Wish I had a tool to do that. I probably would too.
Wonder why they didn't think of that?

Trevor,
Looks like you might have the hot set up for the ram cars going there. It should be able to breath from both the ram duct of the hood and the FRA mod at the same time. I am going to have to come over and check it out, you think it will fit under the T/A ram hood? Sweeet set up.

Re: K&N FIPK pics installed with FRA
Well guys, I'm very unhappy to report that I don't have any conclusive results. Brackets were completely messed up. They've changed some stuff this year, and between that and a 2 1/2 hour oil down, I couldn't get some solid results. We are now only allowed two time trials. After my 2nd time trial, a dragster oiled down the track from the starting line all the way past the finish line. There was way too much time between time trials to be able to get good results. I'm going to have to go to a test & tune in order to play around with both intake setups for solid results. I might try to make it out there again next Friday for their street night. Hopefully it won't be too packed. I'm still gonna try to get us some results.

Re: K&N FIPK pics installed with FRA
You should soon see where the KN filter gets dirtier more. That's where it is sucking the most air. You'll likly see a dirty spot on the top of the filter where air from from your SS hood opening is getting in, and now at the bottom with that FRA opening. If you see a clean area on the filter, that is a no suck zone.
On my KN panel filter with Whisper lid and FRA, I made certain there were not any no suck zone areas so the whole filter had an even distribution of air available.

Guys,
You can't compare the ET's or MPH. Conditions had changed too much between the runs. I ran the lid and K&N for the 1st round of eliminations, but it had been 4 hours since my last pass with the K&N FIPK. The sun had gone down, the humidity was on the rise, the temp was dropping, etc. The car was running high 12.1's/low 12.2's, FWIW. Our nice weather is gone.
