Default SLP Lid problem

So my fiance got me a new SLP lid, I had a Whisper, and Im installing this thing and the way they made the neck where the MAF goes into the Lid is too small. I have a stock MAF! So what the heck. I should be ok if i get my dremel out and grind this down shouldnt I. Just wondering if its ok and if anyone else experienced a bad mold from SLP. Kinda upset to say the least.

My SLP lid fit perfect, I was able to just slip the MAF right on. My buddy turned around and got an SLP and he had a bad mold like youself. I just carved a little out at a time until it was still a solid fit but the MAF was still able to slide in without much difficulty.

I just installed mine the other day and had this same fitment issue. I rounded up my brother and a tiny bit of grease to get it on. I put a very very small amount on the inside of the SLP lid and completely removed the maf. I then held the lid down on my work bench while my brother shoved the maf sensor in. Hope this helps.

mine fit good with the MAF,, but i got a 85mm SLP MAF,,,,so i would hope that would fit,,,my problem is the 4 lil tabs on the back of the lid,,they are to "fat" to fit into the appropriate slots for the lid

Why change lids?? I have a Whisper and my buddy has the SLP, all lids are about the same except for the one you got apparently not fitting right. To quote the mod guide, section I. at the top of the page in the sticky's:
"What to look for: a lid is a lid is a lid. They will all net you the same horsepower. Pick your lid based on looks and price".
You've gained nothing but appearance and they really don't look that different. Basically you could have put an SLP sticker on your old one and made the same power. Plus it would fit!! Good luck!!

SLP just released a new version. Look here:

The lid dimensions, because of the new injection tooling have a much tighter tolerance then the old lid giving the same excellent fit and finish to each and every lid.

Hang in there I know you will not be disappointed.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks

The easiest way to tell the difference old vs. new is...There are no more plastic weld marks on the side of the neck.

Well the little lady (my fiance) didnt really understand that I already had one, but she did know that she rides in a 00 WS6 TA with an LS1 therefore she heard me say something about a lid, so she got me one. The SLP, she didnt know I already had one on. My whisper never fit good to beging with. Well after a little bit of fabrication with the dremel to my new one I got it on. I just removed the MAF and slid it on. I noticed that the new mold didnt have the weld marks on them for the tab like Gollum said. But a little elbow grease and a budweiser, she went on. I will say, I do like the SLP alot, it doesnt rub against my hood.

Well Im glad to see I wasnt the only one having problems, I would of felt dumb .

There should be instructions with it that say to heat it with a hair dryer. I didn't get the instructions with mine but I had read somewhere previously to do that so that's how I did mine and it went right on. The SLP rep was on here the other day and he said they send out those instructions if you get the lid from them. I think other companies that are selling that new SLP lid aren't getting theses instructions or they are not forwarding them on to the customer, one or the other.

I tried for about 20 seconds and then remembered the hair dryer thing, there was no way that thing was going on without heat.

Thanks for the hair dryer trick. Going to use the heat gun before I break out the dremel on this new lid.
