Default Anyone ever made their own Air Intake

I have a lid but its so boring lookin. I am interested in the FIPK but do not want to spend the 250 for it. It seems that I could make my own. But Im not sure if i could fit 2 cone filters under the hood has anyone done somethin like this???

Voliant.......the K&N is overpriced junk IMO. a lid with FRA is better for performance. from th way the FIPK sits and is open im sure it doesnt get much cool air, just hot air from the motor.

If 199TAmaster has a rammair hood heatsoak shouldnt be an issue. The filter will be directly behind hood openings. Any heat inside the engine compartment will be traveling toward cowl as cool air cool air is blown through hood ducts. I could see heatsoak being more of an issue on a camaro or non Ws6 Trans am. Mostly while staging or a redlight.

you could always fine one used, fipk usually sell about 150 in the for sale section. or just get a lid and ftra or ssra and be done with it

if you want links to the rest of the stuff check out some of the sponsors... like thunder racing or byunspeed or whoever, they all pretty much carry that stuff

IMO no, get a lid and the SSRA or the FTRA. i would say yes if you had a Ram Air hood, but you dont. if anything, the Volant intake would be a better choice over the FIPK. but a lid and FRA with FTRA or SSRA is tried and true. if it aint broke dont fix it.

I just made one with an elbow and a 3.5 inch filter. I got rid of the lid setup because my radiator is moved foward from when i had a turbo setup.

its similar to the one W2W did on that 427 solid roller camaro

The intake dmoss69 made isnt that bad, it works and I would rather have something like his intake than a lid. I have a few ideas on an intake and cold air intake for our cars too but I already use a functional WS6 hood w/ BGRA.

I have a 2000 Z28 with a true ram air SS hood and the K&N FIPK...and so far I am very pleased with the results of the K&N FIPK. I could tell the difference in throttle response, and the system looks really good too. I never tried a lid, but I will agree the K&N is overpriced. I can actually feel air being sucked in when I put my hand right next to the air filter, so it is definately free flowing. However, I can see where it would take in hot air.
