Default Search Down- Replacing Power Steering Resirvoir

I was wondering how you swap out the resivior for the LS1 power steering pump. I got shafted on a deal on LS1Tech and now have
a.) a pump with a busted resivoir
b.) a pump with a missing pully

It seems like I can either swap over the pully or the reisvoir and I, atleast, think I can do my resivoir without needing a shop. Any ideas?

I would just take the pulley off the pump with the bad reservior and install it on the pump with the missing pulley.

Just rent a pulley puller/installer from Autozone/Advance and you can do it yourself.

what type of puller should I get? I thought most pully pullers used a center punch to push off the pully. How do you remove the center piece?

That pulley is pressed on so I'm not sure how hard it will be to remove it and reinstall it.

What is the best way to put the pully back on the pump. Auto Zone had the pully puller for it and got it off. Need to know how to get it back on. Was thinking of using a heat gun on it a little bit and then trying to tap it back on.

Probably best to go to machine shop if you don't have a press of your own. I'd press it on...

It seems like a catch 22 with this thing. You need the pully off to install it onto the head but you need to take it to a machine shop to have the pully installed.

It's kind of a pain but you can get to the other pump bolt if you take the water pump off. It's slow going but it's possible to get the pump off without taking the pulley off.

6 bolts and a couple hoses.

Be careful if you go the hammer route.

little bit different on an RX-7 but anyway. If I heat it up to give a mm more clearance and use a rubber mallet to take away some of the dead blow I should be able to slowly work it on. Same method I used with an underdrive pully but with a little more care.
