Default Air intake setup! Which one??

Ok, serious question about air docks, lids and filters. What is the air intake setup that gives the best HP gain or works the best. I need to know becuase i'm gonna be buying that soon enough for my car. My first choice landed on the Volant air intake. They say it grats a 20hp gain, engine suerly. Anyone run that setup? Any suggestions? I have functionnal ram air hood with big nostrils and air dock that i can mod a big bigger if needed.

Well the claim of 20 hp is bull. Probably get you 10 at the most. My opinion which I share with probably 90% of members here is to just get an aftermarket lid and filter. It will yeild you the same gains and cost you much less. My .02 People that run the Volant or the K&N setup might swear by it though, but there isn't a proven, factual gain between one and the other.

Lid and Super Sucker Ram Air/Austin Ram Air, I love mine! Do a search on SSRA, you'll find tons of info on it.

Get a lid. I had Volant on my last F-Body. While it was nice I saved the money this time and went with a lid. Seem to have gotten about the same gains from both.

^^ I agree...get a lid plus either SSRA or FTRA and you've got about the best intake you can get for our cars. I'm just running a lid and paper filter FWIW.

They're all the same. Whichever one you can get for the cheapest will be the best. The SLP lid is known to fit the best though.

I still think I'll go with something like the volant setup, but maybe custom, I'll grind the inner part of the hood enough in order to have the airfilters fit right behind the nostril grills or something like that, I havent figured out yet. Btw anyone know what diameter is the size of the inner K&N cone airfiltre that'd fit on a volant intake or anything similar?

the ws6 style hood is about the only one that allows the volant or K&N units to shine over the lid/ssra

i say you'll be good with either choice.

ya know folks...since he does have a WS6 hood

Seal that bitch to the airbox. you need to drill out the rain baffles in your hood, and then from there you are gonig to get some weatherstripping and place it around the inside of the hood where the hole is at. by blocking off the airbox from all other air besides the hood, you wont get engine heat being sucked in, and it will be about as "ram air" as it gets. many people have done it and love it. I actually plan to do this myself and best of all, it only costs as much as the weather stripping with the same gainsas a lid or other cai!

Get a lid, and check out your "ram air" scoops. They have these big *** baffles in the way of direct air flow. Also look into the "free ram air mod"

It's a custom hood that I have, by looking trough the nostrils, you can see directly the air box. The hood has a hole that sits directly in front of the airbox without anything in the way, i'll try to get some pics of it with my custom airbox, basically it's the oem one that I trimmed in order to let more air to flow in, but I guess with a Volant one or something like it custom made it'd flow better.

seal it to the airbox, it may have a straight shot but theres still a gap between the lid and the hood
