Default Alternator charging help.

I did a search and didn't find what i was lookin for.Anyway my pcm is deleated and and i know the lil red wire needs voltage to make the alternator work.I don't know the correct voltage for that wire,i tried hooking up direct to a 12v source and i think i toasted my alternator.I have another alternator and put a voltage regulator inline for the red wire to bring it down to 5v but i don't know if thats enough to turn it on because that doe's not work.Any input on this would be great.

I had my alternator converted to a one wire set-up by a local electrical motor repair shop. Still working today on another car. I believe I paid about $180 to have the alternator rebuilt, output upgraded and have it converted to a one wire set-up.
