Default Expanding Exhaust

Having trouble getting my Edelbrock Y to slip onto my collectors, its just slightly too small. None of the muffler shops around have an expander over 3". Any ideas on how to open these up just a bit? BTW, the Edelbrocks have 3.5" collectors

I don't need a reducer, I just need a means for slightly expanding the Y pipe. If I was going from 3.5" to 3" I would use a reducer, but I am going 3.5 to 3.5

I had the same problem with my qtp headers and tsp duals. The only shop around me with a 3" pipe expander was OK 4WD. So maybe try an off road shop. If that doesnt work maybe you could rent a 2.5" expander (which seem to be more common) and jam something around it so it can open up a 3" pipe.

Maybe give Edelbrock a call? Their Y pipe should fit their headers. Sounds like maybe someone messed up at Edelbrock.

how about the old scientific way....drape some ziplock bags full of ice around the collectors until they are real cold, and heat up the y pipe till its red hot

I called Edelbrock, they were very friendly. They offered to have it shipped back, correct it and return it the same day they received it. I would prefer to have the car back up and running this weekend, but if I can't source a good way to do it, then I will take Edelbrock up on their offer.

The very edge of the pipes on my edelbrock y were slightly bent in to less than 3.5" but 1/4" back they were more than wide enough. A quick trim and they slid on with no trouble at all.

How's your ground clearance on that Y pipe. Thanks.

I ended up using a piece of extra 3.5" pipe that came with the headers to wedge them open.

I welded in a pair of magnaflow 59959 cats, my driver's side clearance isn't all that hot. I have adjusted the fit a couple times and think its about as good as I can get it. Less than 6" for sure

The reason I am asking is that I am looking at the same combo. Anything over 4" on the driver's side and I think you are doing well. Any chance of a photo with a soda can?

Thanks

The Cat is 4" OD, Y pipe is 3" OD. If you didn't have the cat or even placed the cat elsewhere, you could probably tuck it up another 1/2"

Not so bad, looks like you have about 4". The photo really helps. Thanks.
