Most stock manifolds are made of cast iron.

I have these...I took the heat sheild off and they look like formed and welded sheet metal. I just need to know if I can cut and weld them because they dont fit and need to be altered a little. Im putting an ls1/t56 in a '52 chevy, and trying to use the stock manifolds.

The 97' - 99' are doubled wall Stainless steel construction manifolds, they have .3mm of air between the two walls. In 2000 they switched to cast iron. This was done to help meet emissions.

It's possible that a different set of stock cast iron manifolds (earlier years, '99-'00 F-body, '01-'02 F-body) would fit your application without modification... You can usually pick them up for cheap when someone puts headers on. I don't know the differences between the F and Y body manifolds, but I'd guess that the F-body ones would be more compact.

The F-Body exit point is more to the rear, the Y-Body (Vette) would be more in the center of the manifold/engine. Depending on you Frame either the F-Body or Y-Body may work or run into contact with the cross member or frame.

Either one can be welded, but for the Tube one.. just make sure the inter and outer are rewelded up as they were before and on the Cast one.. get someone who has done Cast Iron before.

Most Car swaps seem to be better off with F-Body mainfolds due to the rear exit points. Those in the Picture are Vette / Y-Body ones. You many also look for someone that has upgraded to LT from Shorties, if your not so much into getting the most out of the engine, as they sometime go cheap ($75-200 as compared to LT prices).

I got it cut and TIG'd back together. Might have been a waste of time though because my steering will most likely want to go right through it. Im thinking a truck style shortie will work...not sure. this is aggervating.
