Default running hot at idle water pump or balancer?

i have a ls1 in a chevelle, has an underdrive balancer on it. Has an afco radiator and spal 16 inch fan. temp is fine running down the road, idle it climbs quickly. hold the rpm at 2000 it comes right down. Any ideas? i even changed the eletric fan from a 2200 cfm to a 3000 cfm,no change. after that is when i realized the rpm made it drop in temp.

The LS1 is pretty hard to get all the air out of. Did you install the coolant vents on the heads? You at least need the front one installed and working (tube to the top of the radiator).

The radiator, being a custom job, may also be the culprit. Has it been used in LSx swaps before?

no i dont have the front coolant vents ive seen some that didnt do it with any problems. i was thinking of hooking them up. i bled it out several times but that could be the problem. i was gonna hook it up but my custom afco lsx conversion radiator didnt have the fitting.
