Squealing noise after hot engine start
Hello,
the squealing noise is back from last year. I replaced the AIR pump because it sounded like it was coming from
the pump. The noise occurs after the engine has warmed up
and ambient temperatures are higher then 70 deg or so,
probably much higher underneath the hood. It seems to occur only during the operation of the air pump but I am not
completely sure. Whenever I try to catch it it is gone
by the time I am out of the car to go listen underneath the
hood with a long screwdriver etc. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gert

Re: Squealing noise after hot engine start
I have the same or similar problem. First start up does nothing and then go to the store or something (car still hot) come out and start the car and sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeek. Get out to check, lift hood, put head down and noise goes away.
I'm not for sure but I think mine is coming from the powersteering pump. It's almost like when the car is off and hot the fluid is cooling and causing air bubbles or something. I would think that for this theory to be true then there would have to be a leak in the lines somewhere sucking in air. But I can't find any leak.
I only have this problem in the summer time and sure enough last week it started again.
It's annoying as hell to be sitting at a redlight and have a mustang or something pull up next to you and your car is going sqeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!
Hope someone on this forum can shed some light for us...

I had a similiar squeal. Not sure if it's the same one. Do you have an aftermarket lid? My squeal came from the AIR hose which was plugged into a small k&n air filter. I relocated the filter and the problem was gone. It only happened for 2 minutes upon startup because that's when the AIR system works.
