Question Changing my radiator...Coolant drain... what are the basic steps?

K guys... the car is up on jack stands... stock radiator still in the car

I pulled the bottom radiator hose off of the thermostat elbow and let coolant drain.

I also unscrewed the bottom drain plug on the radiator and let it drain out...

that's as far as I have gotten so far...

but my plans are to screw the drain plug back in, put the hose back on the thermostat elbow... then fill the radiator up with just water, then start the car and let the water go through the coolant system to sort of clean all the old stuff out...

then drain it again... I'll repeat the above probably like twice

before I start taking out the old radiator... does it sound like i'm doing this correct so far? Missing any steps?

Thanks guys!

Got 10 gallons of it

I don't plan on using it though till I put the new radiator in... I'm gonna do the drain and flush with regular water from the hose...

dont use water from the hose....it has alot of crap in it and can corrode a radiator faster, also make sure you dont have air bubbles in the system

What staringback said. It's not only the radiator though. All that water will be traveling through the engine aswell. Use distilled water for the flush just to be on the safe side. They sell flush additives at parts stores but distilled water works fine.

well the water from the hose is just a quick in/out to flush out whatever crap is in there... then I drain all that completely and after I install the new radiator i'll fill it up with distilled... I can't really do any flushing with gallon jugs of water

I'm taking the old radiator out and gonna flush straight through the in/out coolant tubes on the block...

K radiator is out... before I do more flushing, gonna go to autozone and pick up some new radiator hoses... I noticed the upper hose has a big metal pipe in the middle of it... when I go to the store for a new hose.. do I just ask for the rubber elbow's on the ends of it?
