Default Best way to check for intake and exhaust leaks?

What is the best way to check for intake and exhaust leaks?

I bought a mechanics stethoscope. Is this the best way. Should I touch the intake and exhasut with it or just put it near it?

exhaust leaks will make a tick or clicking sound. as for intake leaks get some dawn soap and a squirt bottle of water and spray it around everything and look for bubbles

Wouldn't the intake suck the soap in and not make bubble.

How can I tell the valvetrain noise from the exhaust leaks?

I think I'm hearing valvetrain noise. I went over it again and when I put the stethoscope around each header and intake port I hear the exact same thing as putting it over the valve covers and heads.

best way to check for an intake leak it so spray carb cleaner around the manifold or vaccum lines this will cause the car to change idle. if you think u've got an exhuast leak have someone hold rags over your tail pipes and the noise should get louder

I got some CRC MAF cleaner since it's o.k. on plastic. No leaks around the intake ports. I will check the vaccum lines.

Do I need to block all of the tips at once. I'll need 2 people then.

Carb cleaner usually does the trick. don't spray soap on it.

Exactly.

If your hearing a valvetrain noise, go down each valve cover, in about 4 spots. You'll be able to tell if it's similar across the board, or if there is some abnormal noise.

The noise was exactly the same just above each exhaust port on both sides. It sounded the same on the valve covers as well.
