Default cats/header question

i have a 2002 ws6 a4 basically stock- lid, 160 thermostat, corsa exhaust, k&n filter. im looking at putting headers on my car. one performance shop told me that i should get a y pipe with cats on it bc if i dont have cats it will smell like rotten eggs whenever i stop and that it doesnt make that much of a difference powerwise. so i was wondering who has cats or if i should just forget them and get an ory? (it's my daily driver)

Also, does anyone have the stainless steel hooker headers on their car? I was wondering if i should get those or if its worth it to spend more and get qtp or kooks?

thanks so much!! sorry for writing a book

I run with no cats and I have never smelled rotten eggs, just a real strong gas smell sometimes. If you run no cats you will pick up some rasp depending on the wye pipe you go with.

To be honest an ory doesnt smell that bad at all...it definatley has a smell but nothing crazy...i would personally run cats with the Y because it will get rid of a lot of rasp and make the exhaust note sound better IMO, and also the cats create a bit more backpressure which allow for a little more torque down low...

I agree with wats been said!!! having no cats will make a stronger smell but nothing like rotten eggs!!! it all depends on whether or not you can handdle the smell of gas!!!! i personaly have cats!! I live in california and the traffic is a bitch on the freeway and not having cats would make my eyes red every single day!! its up too you!

i run 18" bullets off my headers, no y or x just dumps so there is alot of exhaust coming into my car and it doesnt smell bad at all... in stop and go traffic it just smells like a race track. go for catless. it will sound alot better anyway

I ended up getting a catted Ypipe with my corsa & LT headers. Its going to be extremely quiet with the cats BUT it keeps the sound so clean!...corsa alone is quiet unless at WOT. So I added an electric cutout to my system and i get compliments all the time about how good it sounds. I like the smell of gas so i wish i would have gone ORY sometimes but overall im very satisfied with everything
