you need to remove the old crank bolt, use an ls1 specific balancer pulley to get old pulley off, heat up the innner snout of the ati hub in the oven for 250 degrees for a bit, than with oven gloves(if I did not say it so moron would use there bare hands. push on to the crank snout and thread on using a longer bolt, then seat the crank pulley fully to about 100 foot lbs or so, then remove the longer bolt install a new gm bolt if that is your choice torque to the 2 step torque to strecth the new bolt, install the outer hub after the inner has cooled, and install belts, that is about it.

Oh, and don't forget to put it in 4th if it's a manual or drop the starter and put in that flexplate locking tool thing if it's an automatic. Otherwise the bolt will just spin.....

you should not need one, also if you use a 3 jaw, I wouldn't but if you do make sure to get the proper size slug to fit on the crank snout, and remove the old bolt first, you do not want to use the puller on the bolt or you will crush the crank threads, then you will have a big issue.

Eh, as long as you're careful and take enough time to get it situated properly a three jaw works great.

No. Or, at least not any I've ever used.

Use a half inch drive ratchet and slip a length of pipe (I think we used four feet or so?) with a small diameter over the ratchet and just crank on it.

or pull the rad and then you'll have the room.

so swami, your saying you pulled your stock balancer, not the ati, on an ls1 with a 3 jaw? because I have tried it, and I do not see how you could keep it from walking off.

I dunno, maybe his wasn't really that stuck on in the first place but when my friend and I pulled his to do a cam swap we just followed the directions on LS1howto.com and rotated the puller "bolt" until the pulley popped off.
