Don't count on a hood performing very well. Get an Fast Toys Ram Air or Super Sucker Ram Air kit for performance, and get a hood for looks.

In my opinion, neither will perform well at all because the air travles through so many channesl taht it loses the "ram-air" effect. It is more of a cold-air intake than a ram-air intake.

If you want to get ram-air from a hood as opposed to ram-air systems like the FTRA, then get an Ultra-Z hood.

cowl hoods release heat out of the back of the hood, not suck it in

A cowl hood won't due much on these cars since the air enters from the front of the engine, unlike a carburated car, where it enters the middle (much closer to the rear of the hood)

like others have said, all the hoods are just for looks. And thats why I got the Ultra Z hood. You want ram air then check out the Fast toys ram air kit. Just about all the sponsor's carry it. Enjoy your 02!!

I have a sun coast creations hood and the air box. you can buy the hood and just use the stock air box, but like you said, it sucks air from under the box. The hood has no baffles in it, the air comes straight in thru the nose, and then makes 1 turn down to the air box. The scc air box resembles an LT1 ram air style air box. it has a K&N filter exposed directly to the hood opening(no lid), which is padded with a spongy material (like on the old muscle car hoods with shakers)
However, this is on a trans am and not a camaro

Just a little correction here. Cowl induction hoods do let air into the engine. The base of the windsheild where the hood meets creates a low pressure area as the air rushes over the car. For proof of this look at any NASCAR. They draw their air from the base of the window in the same location as a factory cowl hood. Now will they do any good on our cars? Probably not due to where the air intake is on our manifolds. In that regards your right the hood would act like nothing more that a heat release point.
