Default Alternator Pulley nut: need socket size

Tried search.

Need the size socket I need to go buy, I'm putting on an underpulley kit. I know I need a deep socket 24mm, but what do I need for the alternator pulley?

The nut holding the alternator pulley in place is a 15/16" nut. To keep the shaft from rotating so you can tug on it, you'll also need a T-50 torx bit.

I ended up going with a 15/16" offset wrench, and put the torx bit on the end of my big breaker bar (that's why I went with an offset wrench...a regular wrench won't fit on the nut, plus you still need to be able to get the torx bit on there in the middle). With a good tug, it came off.

The fastest way is to use a shallow impact socket, and place the socket on the nut first, then place the impact on the socket then zip it off. I can't remember if it is right or left handed threads? If you put a overdrive alternator pully on it it's a really tight fit getting the socket in.

The threads are right hand, so they just need to be loosened like most any bolt would.

This is what I did to remove the nut on the alternator pulley. I mounted the alternator in the vice. Took a damp rag and put it around the pulley and twisted the ends so it was tight against the pulley. Now the rag has a tight grip on the pulley. Put my impact wrench on the nut and zipped the nut right off. Not a problem at all. I did the same thing when I was putting the nut back on with the same impact wrench.

Interesting........reminds me of the time when I spent the good part of an afternoon working on the bolts on my diff, when all of a sudden it occured to me they might be left hand threaded. Haha lucky for me I didn't work em over too badly.
