Angry AC Problem

So I have this awful noise coming from my compressor (only when AC is engaged) but the AC still works fine. I'm thinking it is the bearing for sure because I can hear squeaking and also smell something like metal burning when the clutch is engaged. Has anyone tried changing just the bearing? I know the compressor clutch can be fairly easy to remove if you have the right tool, but how is the bearing place in the clutch? How easy is it to remove and is it pressed back into the clutch? Any ideas here? I like my AC here in FL.

I had this happen on a firebird a long time ago. I ended up just getting another compressor (~$50 on the for sale forums here) and it fixed it. I don't have any idea what how difficult it would be to pull the bearing itself out though.

IMO I'd just get a cheap used one like tylerdj did.

Default a/c compressor

I have had bad luck with used a/c compressors, and i do a ton of a/c work in the summer time. just did 5 cars today alone. I would say to get a new compressor and drier is your best route, although i just priced one for my 98 and cost on a good delco unit is over 300 bones. you can replace the bearing, but they dont give those away either. it will also be alot easier if the compressor is off the car, so you will have to get it evacuated. and then recharged. you should also replace the feild coil, and clutch if you are going to replace the bearing. i believe the clutch gap is around .024 on that h7 compressor. If you have any ques feel free to pm me.

Thanks for the help guys, unfortunately, I dont have the 300+ bucks to drop on a new compressor, so I may do the used thing.
