Default Rasp Worries

I'm currently installing LT's and an ORY. I know rasp is going to be inevitable. For now, I'll be running stock mufflers on the SS. So what I was thinking to reduce rasp is to install a bullet muffler on the stock I-pipe or possibly installing a high flow cat in that same spot. My question is has anyone put a cat that far back in the system? I'm not concerned with monitoring it with O2's or anything, just would want to reduce rasp and exhaust smell. Any suggestions or feedback to this idea....????

I would run a chambered muffler or spiral-flo in the I-pipe. Or just use a catted y, you won't notice that big of a loss over the ory performance wise.

If you have the stock dual dual then no worries about rasp. A cat in the I pipe is THE worst idea ever, it will destroy exhaust flow. If you must put a bullet there.

Don't try to put a cat that far back. There is no way to put one in the back of the exhaust where if it lights off you won't burn a hole in your carpet. If you are really concerned with the rasp look at this post by Patrick G in the internal engine section. The "recipe" to 500 rwhp with heads and cam.

No rasp is usually associated with straight thru style mufflers. I've actually heard dual/dual and it sounds nice with an ory.

If you've got the basic SS exhaust (not the dual dual) it will be raspy, I had the same setup, didnt sound very good. I've never heard one with a bullit in the I-pipe but I would think it would help.

What do you mean by the dual dual, to me thats 2 in 2 out with respect to the muffler.......instead of like the SLP LM, where you have two glasspack mufflers on each pipe..........

Pacesetters w/tsp none catted y-pipe.Hooker catback.
I had that terrible rasp sound mainly from 2200-3500 rpm.Full throttle wasn't
bad but noticeable.Put a Flowmaster 3-3.5 merge collector on,best money spent.IMO. Don't know if it helped perfomance but it does make a differance
in the sound.

Even with the mild Hooker muffler, my rasp was bad with ORY. I had cats installed along with a Flowmaster merge. Goodbye rasp.

Try it first. See how you like it, then make changes if necessary.

Mine doesn't give me rasp with pacesetters, custom ORY and magnaflow muffler swap on stock catback.
