Default Electric Cutout Question

I don't know if this is a stupid question but im thinking about getting a cutout. When the cutout is opened do you think its using more gas than it would be using if the cutout was closed?

And if anyone wants to post up some audio or video of there Camaro with an electric cut out please show em.

mine used more gas when it was open before my tune. i guess it just made things run richer. havnt tried it after the tune.

I dont see how more fuel consumption can occur, being that the cutout would be mounted after the cats, (if having cats). Honestly your in for just making more noise.

I agree with LS1ne. Since the cut out is after the front O2 sensors, I have no idea how it could effect gas milage. But, headers can make it run rich before tune.

After a tune, I'd say cut outs would make it get a bit better gas milage.

But, I'm no expert by any means.

OK anyone know how much it will cost to install the cutout and then the switch? Just a ball park price.

Some places will install the switch for close to 150$. They will have to run wires and mount the switch, blah blah blah. Honestly it isnt hard to wire up. I just tapped into my cigarette lighter and mounted the switch in that little garage door opener area right next to it. Most kits come with instructions. Cutouts can be installed for about 30-60$ Just depends on the muffler shop.

I didnt experience a loss in mileage with the cutout open back when I ran a Y setup. If anything, I would think a cutout would help a car more than hurt it. It allows the car to breathe more freely.

Cut-outs are probably the cheapest mod you can do that generates more power.

I heard that with a cutout it losses a little torque but how much more horsepower will it gain? And how much torque is lost?

Def install the switch yourself or with one of your buds. That way its exactly where YOU want it.

here is what i have noticed. with the louder sounding car, it makes you feel like a badass. therefore, you will be tempted to floor it more often/leave it in a lower gear/ drive more aggressively because you love the sound of it. THAT WILL affect your mileage a lot. but its worth it

Could be some truth to that.
