Crank Pulley bolt on A4
Quick question: what is the best way to torque the crank pulley bolt on an A4? When I try and torque it, the motor turns over, and I am unable to get it tight. What would you guys suggest?

I just read another post about doing this, apparently I have to shove a screw driver in the flexplate to keep it from moving. This just doesn't seem like the best Idea. Anyone else used the screw driver method? I'm assuming you stick it up into the flexplate via the inspection window? correct me if I'm wrong...

thanks for the reply and info waterbug. Does this tool work with the tranny installed and everything? link? I need to be able to put this bolt back in there with the motor in the car. With my luck, the damn screwdriver would get wedged in there where I couldn't get it out so I want to try and avoid doing it that way...if at all possible.

Yea, you have to just take out the starter and it bolts up in there. I dont have a link as my buddy used it when doing our crank bolt. Call the local parts start and see if they have one or one you could rent possibly.
But, the time before, I used as thick as possible alan wrench and it worked, but I think thats iffy as well.

good info about the chain, but the ASP under drive pulley I have does not have any holes to slip a chain through unfortunately.
I checked ebay, I can't find it listed. I don't think my parts store has one either. I need to try the huge napa, maybe they will have it.
waterbug, did you take the starter off and shove the allen wrench in there? or did you go through the inspection window?

This was the worst part of my cam install, I used a big thick spike thing that I can't think of the proper name for.
Made me nervous how it was lodged against the block and flywheel.
I almost wish a vendor would just make a locking tool for these motors, they'd make a killing. I googled and looked but couldn't find one either.
