Default LS1 water pump to LS2. Thermostat?

Had to replace my water pump on my 99 Z. When I picked up the new GM pump it was actually the water pump for the LS2. I guess the original pump is now obsoulete and supercedes to the LS2. Here is the issue. my low temp thermostat that I had wanted to install was for the ls1 pump and will not fit/work with the LS2. The new water pump had the stat built into the water neck like the LS1, but all the aftermarket stats for the LS2 pumps looked like drop ins. This is the question. Can the stat in the LS2 water neck be removed for an after market stat. Someone please send me in the right direction. TY....

Can I use the 04-up LS2 stat???? Can they be removed and replaced on this waterneck? Most LS1 stats come with the water neck...

They make 04 and up (LS2) low temp (160 deg) stats to drop in. They're actually cheaper than the low temp with the neck stats on the LS1s.

SLP has them for about $30 shipped. Just use the stock LS2 housing.
I too just figured this out the hard way.
