jack it up further. My jack goes up 27 inches I believe, and I jacked it up at the k member, and JUST had enough room to squeeze them up in there. You have to tip them damned near on end to get them to slide up in the passenger side. Drivers side can be a pain in the *** to get in also. Much easier if you remove the steering shaft, just one less thing in the way then.

Which side and what brand? Did you cut the casting tab off the driver's side of the block?

Get a piece of wood and jack it up from the oil pan. This allows you to move the engine just a bit to make it slip in.....................

What kind of headers? With my American Racing LT's I needed about 20" of ground clearance and they slid right in.

Edit: Sorry just read you have kooks.

Did you remove the steering linkage on the driver side?

The dip stick comes out with a 15mm socket. Shouldn't be too hard to remove, it wasn't for me at least.

When I did the passenger side I only had to remove the dip stick and a heat shield and it slid right in.

Driver side all I had to remove was the steering linkage and it slid right in.

You might have to bend the heat shield a little on the passenger side. We had to on my buddies 01ss.
Good luck just be patient.

Be careful with the dipstick. make sure you keep it straight, and pull stright up. if you start bending it one way or the other, your likelly to break it off at the oring, inside the block. just be aware of that. My header install was smoking, untill I got to that friggin dipstick. I **** you not, i bet i pulled and yanked on that thing for a good 2 hours, and nothing. Stopped, cracked a few beers, drank them down, and figured I woudl give it one last shot, before I just toally ripped on it as hard as I could. Sure as ****, grabbed ahold of it, and it literally fell out in myhand. Moral of the story, if **** gets tough, get a few beers, they do wonders

FYI, if you just jack up one side at a time, you can get away with about 16" total clearance. The angle helps. . .

ya but that's including jacking up the car, messing with the last manifold bolt (closest to the drivers firewall) for about 45min, taking a 30 min trip to the store, and trying to get the header on for about an hour before jacking it up higher. once I had the car high enough that header went in so easy i couldn't believe it lol.

and thnx for all the replies on the tips n such for the pass side I really appreciate it

oh also, are the heat shields needed? I took the drivers side one off, it was just covering some wire that went into the trans. forgot to put it back on... ???

I had forgot to put them back on too, but since the car was still in the air I went back and bolted them back on. During the summer it got a lil hot inside the car and all the heat "shields" are on. I would put them back on, every little shielding helps I guess. I might get another y-pipe and jethot coat it since everything else is coated inside and out. I'll see if it works.

k, new problem---

the headers are finished-they sound awesome. I took the car for a test drive, but didn't really romp on it. brought it back and shut it down. I went to start it up again and it wont start?????? I'm thinking I killed my o2's?????

Did you drive it open? How long was the test drive?
I melted a wire when i first did mine. Just a slight oversite on my part. Forgot to check for proper clearance.

What exactly is it doing when you turn the key?

yeah I drove it open headers, the test drive was no more than 5min. the gas pedal wasn't as snappy as before the headers??leak, or just cuz of them being open headers?

when I turn the key, it turns over but doesnt start up. from what I can see the o2 wires aren't touching the headers, and smoke came out the pass side header after I tried starting it (like when you blow out a candle). ??

I also deleted the air tubes that wraped around the intake manifold and stuff but that shouldn't cause this. oh and took off the rear o2's but also, shouldn't be the cause of it.

it started right up the first time???
