Default Donuts cause trouble!!

So, I spun about 4 or 5 donuts in my buddy's yard with my 2001 SS and then parked it right away and came back about 2 hours later and had no power steering at all, is my pump shot?

I'm guessing the rpms. Most of the burnout/donut videos I've seen is peeps bouncing the rev limiter look nooblettes.

But he could have thrown the belt.

Well that just runs off the serpetine belt and the belt is on the pulley, but i kept it no higher than 3K rpm's so thats not really an issue.

I broke the shaft on my powersteering pump after taching my car up and dropping the clutch. I was stumped to how the shaft broke. Anybody know why the pumps break after high revs?

Really, I mean I don't understand how the high rpms or the turning required for a donut would have a direct impact on the PS pump. It's not like donuts require as much turning as an autox course or something.

Same here.

Someone care to explain why doughnuts do this to our PS?

My camaro broke a PS line after some donuts. I was having problems boiling the fluid when it would start to get hot. I think that's the reason for most of the donut related malfunctions.

The only time doing donuts would put extra stress on the PS pump is if you leave the wheel maxed to one side for the duration. Thats how i blew my first PS pump didnt hear the pump whine and then i drove home with no PS lol.

bingo. if you are holding the wheel locked to the left or right, it puts a lot of strain on the ps pump. if you are at idle, turn your wheel till it locks....you will hear the pump strain and *i think* a bypass valve try to release some pressure. now if you're doing donuts , think how much more stress there is on the pump

if you do donuts, don't hold the steering wheel all the way locked

A friend of mine blew out the pump on his 05 Ram after doing donuts with only 3,000 miles on the truck!
