On my ls1swap im having a hard time keeping the temp under 210 degrees on a 100+ california burning hot day....

Will the car run a little cooler with no thermostat in it??

I will put it back in once it goes below 90 degrees here in So Cal.

I wouldn't do it. Typically you will run hotter. No restriction means fast flowing coolant, not enough time to transfer heat to the radiator. If you don't run a t-stat, at least run a restrictor of some sort.

Wire the fans to a switch and leave the switch on all the time when you're driving. Should stay at or near the t-stat opening temperature unless you've got some REAL cooling issues. That's my suggestion.

Your problem is airflow and radiator heat transfer,
not water flow. Doesn't matter how much water you
run through a hot radiator.

Then, there's the simple fact that the LS-1 PCM
likes to turn the fans on at 210F coolant temp.
So if you haven't messed with settings, a 210F
operating temp is not very unusual.

Not running the fans will reduce your airflow
a bit in stop-and-go traffic (like Cali
freeways).

Sounds like you need a lower stat and ls1 edit or a hypertech programmer to turn on the fans earlier. I think slp sells a kit so you can turn on the fans with a flip of a switch.

where are you getting temp readings from? a guage or the pcm. if your are exact on the temps then you need too look into improving your coolin system

I got the SLP manual fan control switch. It works well-has low speed, high speed, and off positions. It can operate with ignition off too which can be handy when waiting in staging lanes at the strip. The first one they sent me the harness was messed up and caused injector control circuit codes and engine miss. I sent it back and they sent me a new one which works great. I've had it installed for over a year with no problems.

Are you just looking at your temp gauge on the dash? My gauge reads 210 when the coolant temp is staying at 177, stock 180 thermostat. I'm in S.Cal also. My motor never gets too hot, even when I go out to Palm Springs. I've had my 2002 for a little over a year and I've heard the fans come on twice. But I had to idle the car for a long long time on a hot day.

I dont think I've ever heard my fans come on w/o the AC on.

I've run no thermo for a couple years with no problems, can't hurt to try.
