Default vaccum pump for normal driving?

Can you use a vaccum pump like one from moroso for just driving around town?

What is your intend with using the Vacuum pump.. to evaculate the engine in place of the PCV Valve system or to add Vacuum for your HVAC and Brake Booster ? In either case it will work if you set it up correctly.

removed the pcv system when the new motor went in. Just wanting to see if it will help with keeping the intake as dry as possible. have a catch can and breathers just trying to see if it will help in getting that last bit of oil out of intake.

I would not suggest it on a vehicle that see's lots of street or road trip miles. We take a road trip every year and this year had a customer that was running this pump and it failed and locked up while on the trip.

racetronix makes a new harness/pigtail for the stock AIR pump to be used as a vaccum pump I believe. If my catch can with a breather doesn't work I might try this idea myself..

electric air pumps are garbage compared to a belt driven vacuum pump. Its a waste of time basically. (2-3" max vacuum @ rpm)

There is no reason you cant run one on the street. They standardly need to pull some oil mist or small amounts of oil through the pump (from the valve cover or whereever you plumb it). This is what lubricates the pump. You would then just drain the small amounts of oil in the catch/breather can every once in awhile.

I run a GZ motorsports pump setup on my own and customers cars.

This setup has been proven to reduce oil problems with the Turbo Buick crowd. Most likely the electric vacuum pump setup will not make more HP but it will help keeps things much cleaner esp. with FI setups.

The air pump option seems like a pretty good one. Some vacuum is better than no vacuum. The only problem is my car didn't come with one. Maybe I can pirate the V6's one. Is there a difference?

Your car should have come with one from the factory. The Turbo Buick did not come with one. They are all using smog / air pumps used in all types of GM vehicles including LT1 and LS1 cars. We list the part numbers in our ad as well as all sorts of them for sale on eBay.

Correct, it didn't have it when I bought it. I know my camaro does though so I was wondering if they are the same. I don't have a LS1 air pump to compare it to.

LT1 and early model LS1 cars use the 3-wire air pump with integral air control solenoid. Later model LS1 cars use the 2-wire pump. The 2-wire pumps are preferred.

The 3 pumps GM uses are shown in our ad.

My Formula would have had the 2 wire setup as a 98 car. Thanks for the pictures and I'll try to compare them to my 95 V6's air pump setup.
