i thought in california if you moved them from the stock location
you were already violating smog laws.

the passenger side is easy (plenty of room) but the drivers side would be very tough. the problem is, because the pipes are crushed to make room, to take advantage of that, u want it close to the floor. to fit a cat on there, u would be moving it away from the floor...sacrificing ground clearance, and defeating the purpose of the crushed pipe. plus, the only place to fit the cat would be right before the y merge, and there are hard lines right there that make it a very tight fit. and i dunno about u, but i dont want my cat touching any of the hard lines (hence, why i took my tsp catted y pipe off)

Technically moving any of the exhaust is a violation, long tubes/cats- doesnt matter. But do we care.... Hell NO!

Moving your cats from the stock location in any state is a violation of Federal law. All longtube headers are illegal in every state, along with mid lengths and, I believe, shorties without a CARB number.

the sniffer test in california, is they put a probe in ur exhaust pipe and, thats how all the emissons are tested and also they look at the catylst sticker annd check to see all nessacery things are there, and they look under the car as well! they do this test for all OBD cars

The pacesetter headers and y-pipe tuck VERY close under the car. I actually had to do a little BFH mod on the driver's side floor board to get the non-catted y to fit.
