I gutted my cats and the car is really, really loud. It is a beast at idle now.

Wait, are you talking about the SLP Y-Pipe that goes from header collector to I Pipe? If you already have an SLP Y-Pipe, you can swap out the cats with off road pipes. No need to do the entire Y-Pipe over.

I heard from someone that the ls1's need back pressure to operate correctly. If I bang out my cats will I create a problem? Will I need o2 sensor simulators?

Can open...worms everywhere...

Yes you will need 02 simms,
Yes you will lose backpressure and maybe a little low end torque, but you will probably gain hp from it. A lot of people have cut/gutted their cats and they have no (or very little) complaints about it - go for it!

Here is a better idea, don't gut the cats. Run a pipe through the cat, because running an open area in the cats can rob power and in some cases causes vibration. I am personaly about to do this myself, and highly recommend this, because it allows you to bolt on, cutouts, newcats, or even a down pipe. It leaves your options open. Also, what the hell is ORY? What does it stand for, I have never seen this?

ORY = Off Road Y-Pipe
Basically a y with straight pipes instead of cats.

Do like me....Long tubes, Dynomax bullets with dumps. No X pipe, no sissy cats, just header, bullet, and dump. Loud as *****!! Mine is too loud, and I am installing some spintech mufflers that dump right near the rear axle. But if you want nasty....thats it. The only thing worse was when I ran around for a few days with open longtubes waiting for a midnight exhaust shop to weld up my bullets.

I just dont want to think about how bad this exhaust would of been after I install the stroker with the monster cam. I am already going deaf now.

I wish I could get rid of the cats all together. I live in Pa. and by the end of the year you will need cats to pass your state inspection.

98 Silver WS6, all free mods, HPP3, smooth bellows, sub-frame connectors, 160 stat, 3" cat back.
