Default Free Ram Air Question

I just bought a 2000 Trans Am M6 and I am looking for some cheap or free mods to do on it. It came with a flowmaster on it and I just put a MTI lid and K&N filter on it. I have been thinking about doing the free ram air on it. I do not care if I have to clean the filter more often cause that is easy to do. What I am wondering is if it really does add any power. Obviously it is getting more air since the air filter gets dirtier faster. But what do you guys think? Also does the EGR free mod really work were you cut the egr pipe behind the flap on the throttle body?

any time you allow easier air into an engine...it will make more power.

whether you'll notice it or not....depends.

as for the EGR tube removal. probably less than 1hp difference...but i can't imagine it hurts.

i did a lid and noticed a difference, the next day i did FRA mod and noticed a slighter difference. i say it was worth it.

i later did !air n ! egr. didnt notice much difference except the engine bay was alot cleaner and it did remove some weight!

Yes, it basically removes a pipe sitting right in the way and helps the air flow more smoothly

i don't know about a flap but the egr pipe is inside the lip of the intake manifold...just make that pipe flush with the roof of the intake manifold...well that is if you want to keep your ls1 intake manifold..

If you are planning on swapping intakes anytime in the future I would just leave the EGR as it is and then get rid of it in the future when you swap intakes. Seems like too much of a hassle for little to no gain. Easier just to rip the whole system out when putting on an intake. As far as the free ram air, I did it at the same time as putting on my lid. I'm sure it helped some, but how much I don't know.

Hi magnus66,
The egr mod only takes about 5 minutes, start to finish with a dremel.
I noticed a difference doing the FRA, and one week later the EGR mod.
I did both these mods back in 1999.
