Default gm hot cam lope

does anyone have a sound clip or a link of a gm hot cam. trying to get an idea of how much lope it has. i've heard a few but some sound alot lopier than others, does that have to do with the exhaust? i heard one that sounded like a ww1 airplane but another that sounded like it barely had any lope at all.

Not too sure about that. You could throw a ton of timing at it, crank the idle speed up to 1k rpm and it would idle pretty smooth, but I wouldn't call that correct or anywhere near sounding like stock.

The clips in my sig are of the ASA cam, more overlap (choppier idle) than the hotcam.

There are two different grinds to the GM Hotcam, old and new. I have the "old" grind and it sounds real good. Definitely not like stock.

You could get a baby cam and get it to lope if you turn the idle down low enough. Get a cam thats going to make the power where you want it and you can take care of the lope if it's a small cam with the idle. Big cams don't lope if you turn the idle up to like 1000+ as it was pointed out already.

No such thing as an "ASA Hotcam". Mine is the hotcam though. 219/228 on a 112.

this is the part that kind of confuses me. if blkbird is running the hotcam, and jmm98ls1 has the asa i would think the asa would have alot more lope than the hotcam going by the 2 videos? but it seems like the hotcam is alot lopier in comparison. any input?

asa has allot more overlap, hence yes it does have allot more lope

asa is something like 228/236 110 LSA, don't quote me though

yea i know the asa should lope harder but it does'nt if you listen to the clip, it maybe close but i think the one blkbird posted was lopier and his is a hotcam.

lope also depends on other things... Yes the cam plays large part in lope but like was stated run lots of timing and a bit more RPM and it will lope less.. take timing out at idle and run lower idle RPM it will sound choppier. Also the exhaust makes a difference.. a car with no cats and a dumped at the axle setup will sound more lopey (is that that even a word? lol) vs a car with full exhaust and cats.

Heck in This video of my car I'm running 3 deg less timing than stock at idle with a 600rpm idle speed and flowmaster 1 chambers on the collectors of Kooks 1 7/8 long tube headers... its a stock cam. My exhaust not having an X or H pipe makes it more rough for sure though. one of these days I'll make a video of my car running different timing and idle setups. Its really pretty crazy...

edit... just realized blkbird's video was with NO Exhaust at all.. that was open headers. open headers will always sound lopier than hell when compared to any exhaust setup!
