Default Trans-Am Airbox vs. Camaro Airbox

Ok, so you know where the slot is under your air lid clamps that allows the air from your WS6/SS hoods to enter the airbox? Well, that slot on the WS6 airboxes is a lot bigger than the opening on SS's. Could you put the bottom airbox from a WS6 Trans-Am on a SS for more flow? Or would you have problems with hood cearance?

nope it will not work, the taller airbox only works on ws6/firehawk/ultra z hoods

If you actually measure the surface area of the Camaro airbox opening the opening isn't the limiting factor to air getting into the engine, the MAF is much less area for air to pass through. So that huge opening on the ram air cars does nothing to increase total airflow into the engine. If you eventually go with a bigger MAF and bigger TB then the airbox opening will hurt. But you can cut a larger opening into the base of the airbox and bring cooler air in from underneath and once again exceed the MAF airflow.

I have a WS6 lower airbox on my Trans Am. It fits under the hood without any problem. I don't know if it will fit under a SS hood.

certain hoods will allow it to clear, others wont. the gain will be minimal, but if you have the need for the more air and can seal it to the hood then go for it

Cut/trim the floor out of the lower air box to allow the trapped air in front of the radiator easy access to the filter. There is a good size gap between the radiator/condensor and the radiator supt. under the lower air box.

I agree though that your gains "if any" will not be a noticable amount.

im gonna have to go against Jeremiah and a few of the others. the FRA "Free Ram Air" mod isnt the best idea. its gonna get your filter dirty fast and its very hot air. a much better idea is to leave it blocked off or get the SSRA
