Just ordered new Edelbrock longtubes
Just ordered the new edelbrock longtubes. They are supposedly fully tunable. THe edelbrock's come with 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 with a slip on merge collector with a velocity cone. The design is the same or better than the Kooks headders. Only ine bad thing is that they are not stainless steel or coated. I will be recieving them end of the week. Also getting true duals put on the car. I Will keep you guys posted.

Damn those are nice. Why did they go with a 3.5" collector? I'm SO on the fence on this one. Pacesetters or these. I wonder how ground clearance will be. Any thoughts anyone?

Pacesetters are not equal length. Edelbrocks is pretty much a race header. BIG difference!
And its not heresay. I asked a dealer on the other forum this question and he said they weren't equal length but close.

ahhh screw the coating...they are a great price, id just bolt them on and save the money...
the merge collector is great for power, and so is the stepped header part

Re: Just ordered new Edelbrock longtubes
I don't know, I have real bad experiences with coated headers, they are just delaying the inevitable, rust. I have had a set of Kooks on a stang for a year in a half un-coated , and they sit out side and have not rusted at all yet. This is in Florida too, so moisture is at a constant high. I also have the same set coated with Jet-Hot for a little over 2 years, and oh...........they are rusted..........with a coating,......no way. Yes, it will rust with a coating, so coat the for heat, not rust because it will rust either way. The coating will start to peal, or flake slghtly, creating rust. Unless you all plan on coating them once a year don't waste yor time. I am also getting these headers by the end of the year, hopfully, so keep us posted. Also, I expect to see that these headers produce the most power because the merge collector will raise that torque nice an high, right were you wat it too!!

Where did you order them from? Do you think that their could be the same problem with these collectors just like the dynatechs? its a slip on so I am thinking so. Might be a PITA

What size is the collector?
Looks like each tube is crushed to go into the collector. Not good for flow if they are. Each tube needs to be round in the collector witout weld buildup. Even if it takes a 3" or larger collector to keep each tube round you can always reduce down to your exhaust size with a concentric reducer.

Re: Just ordered new Edelbrock longtubes
The collector is a 3 1/2 in. wide merge collector and 3 1/2 part of the collector is the velocity cone to help scavenge exhaust. That collector almost works like a venturi in a carburator. It reduces down in size then opens up and creates a negative preassure drop which then increases velocity.

Re: Just ordered new Edelbrock longtubes
Larry, do you know what a merge colector does? It is actually, upon most aplications, not all, the best header collector. What it does (example) It sends exhaust from 3" to 1.5" back to 3". This causes the exhaust to bullit through the collector, creating very very high velocity compared to a standard colector. Another benifit is that it increases torque becauses it causes a good amount of back pressure so it creates torque, but is not too much to rob you of horsepower. This design is great technology, and in a comparison in Chevy High Performance, the tested standard vs. merge on a Chevy 350 Small block. The result proved that there were large torque increases everywhere, and some gain in horsepower. At no point on the dyno results was power lost, you can't beat that, and this was just different collectors on the same headers.

Red12secZ28, CamaroSS,
Sounds like Edelbrock may know what they are doing with the design of these headers/collectors. Thanks for the info. Maybe I need to try a set!
