Default "Larry" Pulley Install Problem

I went to install the "Larry" Pulley just a few seconds ago and when I went tighten, it was real tight. You could not spin it by hand at all at 5ft lbs (needs to be 37ft lbs!). I took it off and switched sides and got the same results. The back of the pulley is against the tension bracket itself causing it not to spin. I put my stock pulley back on and it spins very freely. This is the top tension pulley and not the bottom pulley correct? Could they have sent me the wrong pulley? Maybe I'm not doing something right...

Yeah, it came with the washer but it is too small for that. 2xLS1, that is what I'm going to have to do. It put it on the only way I could and started the engine and then turned it off. Took pully off and found that I had rub the paint off. So I'm going to take a file to the casting of the aluminum tensioner to dress it down like you said. Thanks guys!

The direction to installing the pulley should have told you that sometimes a little filing is necessary.

Here's what my ASP ( Larry pulley ) instruction sheet says.

1. Remove belt from tensioner pulley.

2. Remove center bolt with 15mm socket. Standard right thread.

3. Install new tensioner pulley with snap ring facing towards radiator.

4. Install washer supplied with pulley inside snap ring.

5. Reinstall black factory cup washer and 15mm bolt.

6. Tighten bolt hand tight and check to see if pulley will turn freely. If not, light filing may be required on lower tensioner arm to remove excess cast, if built up. A rat tail file works well.

7. Tighten bolt. Check again to insure pulley turns freely.

8. Reinstall belt.

It doesn't say in the instructions but the torque spec for the pulley bolt is 37 ft/lbs.

I could have designed the pulley to fit without having to file the casting flash off but I didn't want to compromise strength.

Hope my pulley has eliminated belt walking problem for everybody that has bought it!

Lee is handling this pulley now. You can buy them directly from ASP.

I had a group purchase after I tested my first pulley then gave the drawing to Lee.
